National Take Your Dog to Work Day

Friday, June 23rd

It may be just another Friday for some people. Some people may have no knowledge of what this day actually beholds. June 23rd is one of the greatest days of the year. Why, you ask? Well because it’s NATIONAL TAKE YOUR DOG TO WORK DAY OF COURSE!

THE HISTORY

Take Your Dog to Work Day originated in the United Kingdom in 1996. It then was founded in the United States by Pet Sitters International in 1999. It is actually celebrated every year on the Friday directly after Father’s Day. This was brought into the U.S. to promote shelter dogs adoptions! It encourages employers to get to experience the companionship of a dog and to help support their local pet communities.

This day doesn’t mean much for some companies. Did you know that Amazon headquarters in Seattle is a dog-friendly workplace? I’m sold. There is even a page on their website that introduces some of their dog employees.

I am upset  I am just now finding out about this, and wasn’t able to take my dog to work with me today. Not really because I’d probably get fired, but it’s still a fun thought to have.

Take Your Dog to Work Day is a registered trademark of Pet Sitters International, Inc.
